| 内容記述 | In this paper, we investigated the educational challenges facing New Immigrant Children in Taiwan and the support provided to them, through interviews with children and their school officials in Yunlin County and Chiayi County, Taiwan. Through the series of interviews, we discovered that school students and their teachers all felt there was no problem for the New Immigrant Children living in Taiwan, as they grew up in Taiwan and could speak Chinese. However, the support provided by schools to them cannot be considered sufficient from the perspective of multicultural and multilingual education. Without considering their multicultural and multilingual backgrounds, the education system may be pressuring the children to integrate and adapt to Taiwanese society in the name of equality and fairness. In conclusion, we indicated that instead of aiming directly at language acquisition, under the principle of aiming for language equality, schools should embrace the diverse cultures and languages of New Immigrant Children more. | |||||
