The questionnaires were composed of several scales: animal abuse (e.g., \"How many times have you hit the animal at home?\"), the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (e.g., \"If somebody hits me, I hit back\"; Buss & Perry, 1992), and estimation of animal's basic emotions (e.g., \"How much do you think that the animals feel sad?\"). Participants with experience in rearing protected animals (N = 508, 324 men and 184 women; Mean Age = 51.7 years, SD = 14.6) were analyzed. The responses were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression analysis with Bayesian inference. The results indicated that animal owners' high aggression scores (i.e., physical aggression and anger) and low verbal aggression scores were associated with high frequency and variation of animal cruelty, although this association was weak.
