Participants were presented with vignettes depicting first-time interaction with others. A series of ANOVAs were conducted to examine the effects of group (high vs low social anxiety), person disclosing (self vs other), and information being disclosed (shallow, medium, deep) on the impression of disclosure. The effects of group and information being disclosed on subjective probability of self-disclosure was also examined. As a result, high socially anxious individuals believed they would make a less positive impression and rated their subjective probability of self-disclosure lower, regardless of the information being disclosed. People rated their own disclosure as eliciting less positive impression than disclosure by others; this was a global trend regardless of levels of social anxiety.
