When a therapist attempts to build a mutual relationship with an autistic child, it is also necessary to constantly change the approach. This study examined the role of a therapist’s emotions when deciding to change the therapy approach. In this case study, play therapy was used with an autistic child. In the discussion, it was shown that the therapist has involved in the role that is being determined from the autistic children by receptor involvement. Therapist noticed that there are no myself in therapy scene, and changed the involvement, when relied on own emotions. The emotion exhibited by the therapist was considered as a clue to understand the emotions of autistic children. It has been suggested that an understanding of how therapists use their emotions can have an important bearing on the therapists’ decision to change the approach.
