The purpose of this article was to review previous studies about the effect of emotional labor on job satisfaction and burnout. As a result, we clarified that the participants were chosen from various occupations, and various kinds of index were used as the measurement of emotional labor. In addition, it is revealed that many variables about working conditions and workplace environments, such as autonomy and social support, were used as the independent variables except emotional labor, moderator and mediator. On the other hand, the variables such as personality, attitude and thanks or approval from clients or customers were examined hardly. Moreover, we found that the studies for interaction of emotional labor and other variables were very few. Furthermore, the number of studies in Japan is far few compared with foreign studies.
